Winning 2018’s Best TV Personality award, you can expect an energetic, witty depiction of the days ahead with David’s segment, whether it’s good news or bad. Let’s hear from Calgary’s local Sky Watch Weather Meteorologist himself.
Are you a born and raised Calgarian?
I am not a born and raised Calgarian, though I have lived here most of my life. I was born in Winnipeg and raised both there and in Victoria. Calgary was a stop on my career path in 1981 and, with the exception of 1985-87, I’ve been here ever since. In my business, there is a lot of movement, and I’m fortunate to have landed, planted roots and raised a family in a city that I truly love.
What was your dream job growing up? How has this influenced who you are today?
I never really had a dream job as a young child. Somewhere during the high school years, I decided I wanted to be a psychologist and began university studies toward that goal. Circumstances changed, and so did my career trajectory.
What is your favourite thing about Calgary?
I have many favourite things about Calgary, however the terrific people are number one.
If you could describe Calgary in one word, what would it be?
Home.
What does being a Calgarian mean to you?
I am thankful to be a Calgarian. Survey after survey shows Calgary as one of the best and most liveable cities in the world. Not everyone gets to live in the best city in the best country on the planet. I am grateful for that.
What is your favourite Calgary event/activity or thing to do?
I enjoy exploring the tremendous pathway network we have, whether it’s by walking or cycling. We take our pathways for granted, but we shouldn’t. There is truly nothing else like it anywhere in the world. Hiking the Douglas Fir trail makes it easy to forget you’re in the middle of the city…
Where is the best place to people watch in Calgary?
Prince’s Island Park or the Calgary Stampede.
Tell us about your business, what motivates you to do what you do every day?
I forecast the weather on TV. I am motivated by the fact that what I do affects each and every one of our viewers. It’s a big responsibility to get the forecast right, because so many people depend on it.
Anything special coming up we should know about?
Yes, but I’m not yet ready to announce it to the world just yet!
