Simply walk into Riverside Spa and you will be treated like royalty from the initial check in with plush robes and soft slippers all the way until the end where you’ll sip on cucumber water in their tastefully lit relaxation room after using their Swiss showers. Are you a born and raised Calgarian?

It’s true I was born and raised in Calgary, however I did leave for a few years. I went to the University of Alberta to complete my undergraduate degree, after which I moved to the Bahamas (and later on, to the Florida Keys) where I worked as a dolphin trainer.

What was your dream job growing up?

Growing up, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. I took a lot of animal behaviour classes in University and, as a result, learned a lot about human behaviour. We’re not so different.

What is your favourite thing about Calgary?

The people. Calgary is full of great people!

If you could describe Calgary in one word, what would it be?

Vibrant.

What does being a Calgarian mean to you?

Calgarians are motivated, passionate people that work hard and play hard. Opportunity is plentiful here, which translates directly to the entrepreneurial vibe that I love. I’m really grateful for the 38 people who work with me at Riverside Spa. The fact that I have these individuals to share the journey with means a lot.

If you were an emoji, what emoji would you be?

The thinking emoji - I spend way too much time in my own head, so…

Do you have a favourite watering hole in Calgary?

Tavernetta - a good friend of mine, Keith Luce, is the co-owner. He’s a humble guy, but don’t let that fool you. He was a sous chef at the White House, cooking for the Clintons once upon a time. He’s pretty good at what he does.

What is your favourite Calgary event/ activity or thing to do?

Summer – Folk Fest.

Winter – There’s nothing better than a day spent with my family skiing at Lake Louise.

Where is the best place to people watch in Calgary?

Stephen Avenue Mall.

Tell us about your business, what motivates you to do what you do every day?

The people who work with me! I want to make sure that they have a fantastic place to work, one where they feel safe, loved, supported and valued in what they do. I do my best to take care of the team so that they can take care of our guests. They do an amazing job!

Anything special coming up we should know about?

Our 10th annual Day of Guilt Free Pampering was on December 5th, 2018. We have raised over $70,000 for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in those 10 years. Our 11th annual Day of Guilt Free Pampering will be December 4th, 2019.
