Our Approved Valentine's Day Date Ideas
Written by: Kelsey Woods
Happy February YYC! We welcome this new month of winter with open arms, and open hearts for the Valentine’s season. For some people, Valentine’s is dressing to the nines and heading downtown for a romantic rendezvous accompanied by a bottle of pinot noir, while others simply crave a homemade meal with hunny and a stroll under the stars. And don’t worry, we didn’t forget about all you single folks out there! Valentine’s is a day to celebrate the important people in your life, whether that is a spouse, significant other or friend. Check out some of these former Best of Calgary winners to make this Valentine’s Day memorable as heck.
Peaseblossoms Flowers
Surprise that special someone with fresh flowers this Valentine’s. Peaseblossoms has been part of the Beltline District since 1995 and has been a stronghold in the community ever since. Each bouquet is individually crafted to create gorgeously unique pieces. This is just one of the reasons they were chosen for 2017’s Best Flower Shop in Calgary. They source their flowers from a worldwide network of responsibly produced flowers and foliage and do their best to ensure much of their product is Canadian grown, but we all know this can be tough with our cold northern winters.
Hana Sushi
Why not spend this Valentine’s Day swooning over a Fuji Mountain Roll and warm glass of Saki? This favourite sushi restaurant has been serving up the best rolls since 1998, and won our Best Sushi in Calgary award in 2017. With the freshest of ingredients, Hana Sushi hand makes each roll to perfection, with unique combinations of fresh fish, crisp vegetables and savory sauces. Make your V-Day reservations so that you can stroll in and sit with ease.
Spend V-Day with Dave Kelly
Dave Kelly was long known in the breakfast television scene and then moved on to producing, interviewing and creating a fun atmosphere. And to top it all off, he’s coming to Calgary this February. Get ready for a night full of stories, songs, and laughs with Dave Kelly – and his special guests – with help from the Calgary Folk Fest to warm your heart this Valentine’s Day. Regular tickets start at $40 or treat your special someone to the VIP experience with exclusive seats and a dining experience.
Stillwater Spa
Located in Calgary’s downtown Hyatt Regency, this spa is nothing short of a relaxation resort tucked away in the bustle of an electric city. Enjoy the luxurious Stillwater Duet package complete with a facial, signature pedicure, a healthy gourmet entrée and a side-by-side relaxation or therapeutic massage for you and that special someone. We promise that all those weekday troubles will melt away once you step into this calming room of relaxation.
Telus Spark
Experience the wonderful world of science with your partner this year at Telus Spark. Their new interactive exhibit Whales Tohora allows you to immerse yourself in the life of a whale, learning what it is made of, what it eats, what sounds it makes and how it evolved to be the way it is today. This particular exhibit has been touring North America for nearly ten years and Calgary is its final destination. So head on down to Telus Spark for a night of learning and intrigue while you both learn about whales with real life whale bones!
