Established in the late 1960s, Theatre Calgary has a long-standing tradition of being our city’s top-rated theatre company as well as winning this same award last year. Over the years, Theatre Calgary has been led by big names in the Canadian theatre scene, including Christopher Newton, Rick McNair and Sharon Pollock. Currently, the theatre is being overseen by Stafford Arima, a rising star in North American theatre, having been the first Asian-Canadian to direct a musical on Broadway with the production of Allegiance (2015). He has also directed the award-winning Off-Broadway musical Altar Boyz (2005), the Broadway revival musical Carrie (2012) and has played dozens of roles in other productions.

If you’re looking to catch a show, the Theatre Calgary production of Billy Elliot the Musical will be running from April 9 to May 12, directed by Arima himself. Having recently announced their 2019-2020 line-up, Calgarians can start planning for Theatre Calgary productions of: Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream this July and August, the infamous British comedy Noises Off this coming September, a Canadian-born one-act play known as Iceland in October, the musical The Louder We Get for next February, the provocative Admissions scheduled for next March and/or the 1950s-era Memphis music piece Million Dollar Quartet in May 2020. More information on Theatre Calgary’s productions and ticket purchases can be found here.
